What are demo records in Harmony?

When you sign up with a Harmony Launch account, demo records may be pre-installed in your account, allowing you to learn and try the system without having to start with a blank slate.

Which records are the demo records?

Depending on your management type selection in the launch sign up, you'll have a unit listing, a person, and an agreement for each type of management you do. The demo people have funny and harmonious names, and are indicated by a pawn icon beside their ID when viewing profile lists. Here are the standard demo records:

What if I don't have the demo records?

The demo records are added by default at the time your account is created, but there is an option to create an account without demo records. If you have requested a clean start or an account without demo records, they will not be installed. If your account does not have demo records and you want to be able to use them for learning and training, contact us. In some cases, we may be able to set you up with a playground account that allows you to learn and test without impacting your business account.

What can I do with the demo records?

Your demo records have generally the same functionality as bona-fide records, so you can do pretty much anything to them as you would in the regular course of dealing with your real records. Demo units are always inactive, which means they won't be displayed to the public, and you cannot accept applications/bookings on them. To try out applications and bookings, you'll need to add a real unit listing, as we cannot make fake listings public for obvious anti-fraud reasons.

Because of the nature of accounting books, if you add financial transactions for demo people/agreements, they will not be purged when you purge demo records (see more below). If you are adding fake/demo financial transactions, you will have to void them. If you wish to do extensive learning, training, or testing with financial records, there are two clean options:

  1. At the point you are ready to move from trial to live, you may contact us to wipe your books. This will give you a clean, new set of books. It will wipe out any changes/additions to your bank accounts, chart of accounts, bill/charge codes, and any other money related customizations, as well as all transactions.
  2. If you require an ongoing way to learn, train, or test financial transactions, please contact us to see if you are eligible for a playground account. A playground account is a separate account, with a separate login, that allows you to do everything in Harmony without affecting your real business data.

How do I get rid of the demo records when I'm ready to start working with real records?

You can either delete them (safer), or purge them (cleaner). Deleting them will remove them from all active lists. Purging them will completely remove them, as if they were never there.

From either Places > System, or Management > System, select Purge Demo. A list of all demo records, including items you've added for demo people, will be displayed. Select the Purge Records button to obliterate them.

Purging is a "destructive" process. This means that everything on the purge list will be permanently destroyed. If you have an item (like a financial transactions) on any purged record, it will be "orphaned", meaning that it's going to be there forever with no way to access/edit it. If you're concerned about the destructive nature of purging, don't do it! Instead, simply delete each demo record following the instructions for deletion.
